Sun-Dial SINGLETON

Singleton (Population 23,380) and almost 200km from Sydney is famous for coal and the world's largest sun-dial !!! Singleton township was established in 1820 with many original buildings still left and well-preserved thanks to the $14billion plus worth of exports almost all fuelled by coal mining and electricity generation. This was our final visit with a quick 2.5hr return to Sydney thanks to the M1. LOOP-THE-LOOP went without a hitch and saw us participate in a number of exciting activities not to mention the great steaks and wine along the way with very friendly locals welcoming us to their towns and 2022 !!!

In the 9 days of our trip Bundy drove a total of 2,083 km (daily average of 231 km) - what a fabulous effort !!!

Long Live the Loop !!! Thanks for following us - Yianni, Bundy & Ashes signing off...

GLORIOUS GLIDING - A Special Post

Easily the HIGHlight of our trip !!! Bah Ha !!! Glorious Gliding over Lake Keepit thanks to the Lake Keepit Soaring Glider Club. See the famous dog-fight between Yankee Yiannis and Baron Von Bundy as they fight tooth-and-nail for supremacy over the skies of Lake Keepit about half-way between Gunnedah and Tamworth in NSW. All the stats you need are in the photos and we thank Ian and Andrew for taking John and Nick up respectively. Gliding is extremely safe given the incredible lift aerodynamics, low-drag and anti-stall characterisitcs of the aircraft. You also wear a parachute inside anyway - only one person has ever used it in Australian gliding history... Gliding is a simply breath-taking experience and you literally feel like you have wings of your own. If you ever get a chance - GO GLIDING !!!

Be sure to watch the exciting 8min short film "Glider Wars" featuring our glider flight above the skies of Lake Keepit.

Bygone BOGGABRI & Genuine GUNNEDAH

The flat lands and eastern dividing range continued for a further 53km from Narrabri to Boggabri (Population 856) and then another 46km to Gunnedah (Population 12,690). Boggabri belongs to the past. Remnants of past glorious years and worth a stop. Just outside is the large rock formation known as "Gin's Leap" where the aboriginal version of Romeo and Juliet took place - a young couple who jumped from the rock to their deaths rather than marry people they did not love. Gunnedah on the other hand is very modern and very well equipped with refurbished pubs, painted grain silos and a FINA compliant Olympic Pool that I swam 2km in. Gunnedah also features Porcupine Lookout - the closest, highest and best town lookout I have seen. At 433m you can even still see Mount Kaputar National Park which we trekked yesterday even though it is 96km away!!! Feast your eyes on Boggabri-Gunnedah...
